Why did you choose ECIO to submit your educational abstract?

ECIO is undoubtedly a successful annual meeting that CIRSE has been organising for over a decade. Numerous healthcare teams from all over the world participate in this meeting to share their knowledge on the management of patients with malignancies, establishing and evolving the range of applications interventional oncology can offer. In my opinion, it’s a great honour for a physician to actively take part in such a congress by attending and sharing their work.

Are there any special considerations to take into account when submitting this type of abstract?

I believe that submission of an educational abstract and subsequently, after acceptance, the creation of an educational poster, show the intention of the authors to present interesting topics from the literature and to compare and review the results of current technologies and methods of treatment. Therefore, an educational abstract should be concise and clearly introduce the investigated theme of the literature.

How did you find the submission process?

The ECIO abstract submission online platform can be easily accessed via the event website and is very user-friendly; it even enables the creation of a draft which will be saved and may be accessed again and edited at a future time before being submitted. There are also guidelines for abstract submission available on the event website, which are very helpful.

Do you have any tips for physicians considering submitting an abstract?

I suggest starting by spending some time well in advance preparing initially just the text of the abstract, especially for physicians submitting an abstract for the first time. This is feasible considering the long submission period, which is open until January 12 this year. Moreover, I would encourage my colleagues to consider the abstracts and presentations featured in previous ECIO meetings, available in CIRSE Library, in order to get inspired by other physicians’ work and their way of presentation and to be assisted in choosing the proper abstract category for submission.

Will you submit an abstract for ECIO 2023 as well?

At the moment, we are very excited to be in the process of submitting an educational abstract for ECIO 2023 regarding the treatment of renal cell carcinoma. Every year, ECIO gives us the opportunity to meet and share our work and ideas with other medical teams worldwide. This is actually the cornerstone for the advancement of interventional oncology and the continuous improvement of cancer care.
